The African Genetic Biocontrol Consortium will be holding a webinar on the regulation of genetically modified organisms on April 28, 2022, 4:00 pm EAT. The webinar offers a unique opportunity to learn more about genetic biocontrol and its regulation. It will explore the need for expanding regional research capacity and preparing for informed decision-making and effective governance of genetic biocontrol technologies in Africa.
The event will have two panel discussions. The first, titled “Status of Biosafety Frameworks in Africa: Guidance and Best Practices” will be chaired by Dr Jeremy Ouedraogo, Head of Regional Office of NEPAD Agency ABNE. Dr Ouedraogo has extensive experience in biosafety strategy development and implementation in Africa and will shed light on these during the session. The second panel will be chaired by Dr Roy B. Mugiira, acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Authority (NBA), Kenya, and will delve into the specifics of genome editing regulations in Kenya. The sessions will be moderated by Ms. Lilian Chimphepo, Principal Environmental Officer, Environmental Affairs Department, Malawi.
